GENERATING GERBER  AND DRILL DATA FROM SCANNING

1.0   SCOPE OF WORK

The following statement of work will describe the type and composition of data that the customer will receive from Precision Images, LLC as a result of scanning a supplied media.

Section 7 of this document allows the customer to specify their requirements if they are not met by our standard output as described in section 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0.

2.0
  OBJECTIVE

To provide data that is:

  • Dimensionally accurate whenever possible.
  • Faithful to the original in regard to features sizes and connectivity.
  • As CAD-like as possible for ease of DRC and editing.
  • Manageable in regard to file size.

3.0  COMPOSITION OF DATA

Gerber data:

  • Artwork will be scaled to print , if supplied.
  • We will attempt to snap CAD artwork to grid.
  • Pads that are associated with dimensioned details on print (if supplied) will be positioned accurately.
  • Pads will be flashed wherever possible. Complex pads will be filled.
  • Pads will be registered from layer to layer.
  • Conductors will be single line draws where possible.
  • Copper areas will be filled.
  • Trace widths and pad sizes will be consolidated into groups of the same size on a given layer. (ex: .010 / .020 / .050  as opposed to .009, .010, .011 / .019, .020, .021 / etc.)
  • The width of a trace will be uniform for it’s entire length if that was the intention of the original design.
  • Hole centers will be removed.

 CONTINUE COMPOSITION OF DATA
  • Images, except for crop marks outside the circuit’s parameter, (reduction dimensions, targets, drawing formats, notes, etc.) will not be included in our data unless specifically requested by the customer. Refer to Section 6.0 to make any exceptions.
  • On hand-taped artworks the unused built-in neckdowns (“dog bones”) in chip patterns will be removed.
  • Silk-screened component outlines will be single line draws if possible and text will be filled except in the case where text is touching the component outline, then both will be filled.
  • Some plane layers may require the data to be a composite. We will supply at most, a double merge composite (pos – neg – pos).
  • Plane layer polarity may be different than the original. It will be scanned the most efficient way in regard to ease of editing the data and file size. In general, most planes will be negative and combination plane/signal  layers will be positive.
  • Files will be viewed and oriented same as the mechanical / drill drawing, if supplied.

Drill data:
  • Dimensioned holes will be located according to print, if supplied.
  • Holes will be registered to artwork.
  • Drills are optimized for shortest travel path.

4.0  DATA FORMAT

Artwork layers will be output in the RS274X format with the following parameters:

decimals – 2.4, leading zeroes suppressed and absolute coordinates.

Drills will be in ASCII Excellon 2 format with the following parameters: decimals – 2.4,

trailing zeroes suppressed and absolute coordinates.

5.0  TRANSMITTAL OF DATA

All files will be compressed into a Zip file format and sent as an attachment to an e-mail

message. Original media will be returned to the customer, as requested, via UPS

Ground service.
